June 28, 2009

It seems my blog updates are getting few and far between. Let's see what happens when there are 2 little ones instead of just one. I'm guessing there will be even less posts.

Mom is still with us. She is having increased seizures and spends most of her time in a comfortable, asleep state. I think the switch to the new hospice company was a good one. Time will tell.

Tisha is working hard at managing the help and keeping the staff motivated on a daily basis. There seems to be a general "lazy" trait that infects so many people in the work force today. Tisha has no place for it thankfully and promptly disposes of the less than desirable help quickly!

When I was in Texas I interviewed for a job. I am happy to say that they are going to hire me. Yeah! I have yet to receive any contract but it looks to be a pretty sure thing. I will be working in the Granbury and Weatherford emergency departments. I think it will be a good fit for me.

Tisha went with me to Granbury to do some house shopping while I was in Texas. That was fun! I am getting excited about becoming a first time home buyer. I guess at 38 it's about time!

I am transitioning into the "full time" stay at home dad role. I finished my 9 month software project and website and I am going to begin the marketing phase this week. Wish me luck! (Look at my website).

Austin keeps me pretty busy. He is in to everything and keeps me on my toes! We enjoy going to the beach and taking walks. Mostly "we" enjoy pulling everything out of cabinets and drawers, climbing into things, making messes and generally being mischievous!

We have about 7 weeks to go until baby number 2 arrives. It's hard to believe we are going to have another helpless little baby to take care of again. We are excited though. I can't wait to see him and say hello!

June 13, 2009

If you read my last post you probably sensed my frustration with the hospice company. I wanted to give you a quick update on where we are. We decided to let them (the hospice company) go and we brought in a new company Thursday. So far the transition has been smooth. I am hopeful that mom's care will improve. They seem to be more involved and they have a strong Christian philosophy. We will pray that this was the right move.

I interviewed with an ER group in Texas on Friday. I think I have the job if I want it. I haven't committed to it yet but I think it would be a nice job. I would be working as an ER doc at the hospital in Weatherford and in Grandbury, Texas which is about 30 minutes away from Weatherford. We shall see?

Janet's mother came out to be with Austin and Janet for the week while I am away. They went to the beach today and got caught in a rain storm on the way home. They are having fun though. I'm glad Elsie got to come out.

Mom Update

I headed back to Texas on Monday. I had planned on coming Friday but Mom made a turn for the worse. I got here as soon as I could. She was getting less responsive and it didn't look like she had much longer to live. She wasn't able to swallow/eat/drink and her respiratory rate was shallow and rapid.

Turns out, after I got here, that she was worse because the "excellent" hospice staff had over-medicated her for the previous 4 days. Amazing what large doses of methadone and clonazapam will do! After holding the meds for a day, she woke up and became more alert and able to eat and drink again. Imagine that! She is sitting in the living room now having a conversation with Tisha.

So, I really don't know what to think. I know Mom isn't getting better, but she isn't as bad as I thought she was when I headed to Texas. I will keep you posted.
